Thankful

~~~ Long sigh ~~~~ I am thankful. Thankful for this Country, the ability to be FREE, the ability to make choices for myself, the ability to love those around me and the ability to voice my opinion.
As this is the weekend to celebrate our freedom, I can't help but wonder how long I will be able to make the choices and decisions for myself and my family that I choose to make. It seems as of late, the ability to make decisions for myself are being more and more taken away. Oh not literally taken away, yet; but at least taxed. If I choose to go tan, I have to pay a tax? If I choose to not carry health insurance, I have to pay a tax? If my employer chooses not to carry health insurance for me, they have to pay a tax? I could go on and on....
I have to watch the news daily, I have to know what is happening to our America, but doing so at times, makes me so weary. We as a people, are no longer able to depend on the decisions of those we have elected to represent us in Washington. I can still exercise my right to vote (if the panthers don't show up) and vote to make a change in the person who represents me. But are the people who vote, taking this upcoming election seriously? Do they really KNOW what is going on in our country today, or are they just going and pulling the lever for the first person on the ballot because they blindly trust that person? Have they taken the time to learn and educate themselves regarding the person they are voting for? Do they know what that person believes in?
Yet, that being said, look at our current President. He promised to make changes, he made promises that this administration would be transparent, we the people would know what was happening in the decision making process of laws being enacted today. Yet behind closed doors, a health care policy was enacted that I dare to say, probably not one person really knows how it will effect us in years to come.
Websters definition of freedom:
Main Entry: free·dom
Pronunciation: \ˈfrē-dəm\
Function: noun
Date: before 12th century
1 : the quality or state of being free: as a : the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b : liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another : independence c : the quality or state of being exempt or released usually from something onerous d : ease, facility e : the quality of being frank, open, or outspoken f : improper familiarity g : boldness of conception or execution h : unrestricted use
As I read this definition, I wonder if our America is as free as we think. The absence of necessity, coercion or constraint of choice. Are we truly able to exercise that liberty. Does that mean we should be able to make choices without taxes added? Is that freedom??
Thank goodness, I can still exercise my freedom of speech, the ability to be frank, open, outspoken. We as Americans, need to use our voice, to educate as many people as we can to use that freedom before it too is taxed or taken away from us.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (New International Version)
17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom
Yes, the freedom to have the Bible in our schools has been taken away. Yet plainly, the Lord says, where His spirit is, so is our freedom. We the people, have not spoken loudly enough and have allowed this freedom to be taken from us. Will we stand up and take this freedom back?
  3. Good job, case in point @95% of the voting blacks voted for Obama. Is this voting for the mans qualifications and abilities or just the color of his skin?
